Improving Bowel Movements with Reflexology
Jan 19, 2010 Bowel Movements, Reflexology, Reflexology Treatments
There is nothing better than to have a “clean” internal system and the comfort knowing that bowel movements come several times a day without a thought to a lot of us.
Unfortunately most of us from time to time have issues with our colon and proves to be very difficult to avoid for many. Whether you are a new born or a senior, reflexology will help get the digestive system working at the best of it’s ability for your specific body.
A healthy individual should have bowel movements about 2-4 hours after each meal, three times a day is best. When this happens the bowels are clean and has little to no parasites or bad bacteria and yeast to complicate the whole digestive system. Headaches will start to decrease and back pain will minimize. The whole body is connected and when an organ, body part or gland is not working at it’s best, systems start to slowly fail and one problem starts to become a chain of many more.
There are special techniques that a reflexologist can do to increase bowel movements that will help many other areas of the body function at its best and in a whole make you feel relaxed and energized. The colon in reflexology is spread across both hands or feet and needs to be firmly stimulated by specific direct pressure.
There are also areas in the lower back and spine that will relax the nerve ending that directly relate to the digestive system. This will free up any blocked energy and get your system “flowing” by means of voiding or detoxifying the body as a whole.
Contact a local reflexologist today to learn more about how reflexology can help bowel movements.

Reflexology Relieving Aches and Pains of Pregnancy
Jan 15, 2010 Reflexology
Reflexology is a natural therapy that is a great way to relieve the aches and pains of pregnancy.
Many women have had a lot of success with reflexology in alleviating back aches, hip pain and swollen feet. There are so many benefits of reflexology, but for pregnancy, it’s best to start sessions in your second trimester.
Through continuous care by a trained reflexologist, women can benefit all through the pregnancy right up to delivery. There are many points in the hand and foot that can start contractions by gently but firmly administering pressure to the correct areas that relate to the body.
Oxytocin is a natural hormone that is made by the pituitary gland and can be easily stimulated through reflexology to be released in the body. Oxytocin is released in large amounts during labor and when breastfeeding. The middle of both the left and right hand and foot is the reflexology point that relates to the female reproductive system. Contact a reflexologist today and ask about how reflexology can help pregnancy become less painful.
Can Reflexology Reduce Pain for Cancer Patients?
Nov 27, 2009 Reflexology
A number of patients seeking reflexology are doing so because of cancer treatments that are causing them a lot of pain. We are asked many times if reflexology can be beneficial for cancer patients and the correct answer is for some yes, but not for all.
A recent study may force a change to that answer however. During a study of pain and anxiety in cancer patients, reflexology was proven as a source of relief. A 45-60 minute reflexology session was given to the study’s patients and the results showed a significant decrease in the amounts of pain and anxiety for the group.
The conclusion of the study went one-step further by making this recommendation:
Hospitals could have qualified professionals offer reflexology as a complementary therapy and teach interested partners the modality.

Reflexology for Infertility
Nov 8, 2009 Reflexology
Many women trying reflexology for the first time have a specific reason for turning to the therapy. More often that not, recently that reason has been for infertility.
The cost and side effects that come with prescriptions that claim to help infertility can be staggering. Reflexology offers a safe, natural alternative to infertility and a new study in Britain has been launched to research and record just how much of a difference reflexology makes in helping infertility problems. In my experience I’ve seen first hand how much of a difference reflexology can make for some clients, I’m excited to see the results of the new study.

Use Reflexology to Ease Migraines Yourself
Sep 28, 2009 Migraines, Questions, Reflexology, Reflexology Treatments
Often an average headache is more than average. A migraine can occur for any number of reasons, stress, tension, eyesight problems and the list goes on.
At times you can even feel the throbbing strength of the migraine coming way ahead of its’ arrival. When this happens take a minute to stop what you are doing and practice a little reflexology on yourself!
Many people as us for simple techniques that can relieve pain or stress that they can administer themselves. This is by far the top self-reflexology technique for getting rid of migraines or headaches all the same.
Reflexology Raking to Relive Migraines and Headaches:
- Take your left hand palm down and place your right hand’s fingers at the base of your left wrist.
- Using your fingers and with some ‘comfortable’ pressure drag your right hand’s fingers along the top of your left hand all the way to your left hand’s knuckles.
- Lift your fingers off your left hand, place at the wrist again and repeat for at least 20 minutes, remembering to lift off each time.
- After 20 minutes (any amount of time is good) switch hands and start on the other hand.
- You can repeat as many times you like and even throughout the day at your desk or in some downtime.
Your headache or migraine should at least begin to have a dulling sensation after 20 minutes on each hand. Drinking plenty of water during this process is of benefit as well to relieve your pain.

Does Reflexology Help With Diabetes?
Sep 28, 2009 Diabetes, Questions, Reflexology, Reflexology Treatments
Many diabetics have asked this question as sometimes those who suffer from this disease have used all other regular medical options.
Reflexology for diabetics provides relief from stress in the body, releases toxins and most importantly for those with diabetes – it increases circulation tremendously. The circulation benefit alone will provide a noticeable difference to many of those individuals with diabetes.
Many diabetics who get treated with reflexology have commented that the regular feeling of tingling or numbness in their hands or feet will often subside after a reflexology treatment.
Although reflexology does not guarantee the same results for everyone (we are all different in some fashion), many people with diabetes have turned to and returned to reflexology to ease their diseases symptoms. Contact your local reflexologist to discover more about how reflexology can help those who have diabetes.
Possible Cleansing Responses to a Reflexology Treatment
Nov 3, 2008 Articles, Questions, Reflexology
RELEASE OF GAS
This is a great way to release excess toxins from the large intestine and should not be viewed as anything to be embarrassed or concerned about. Often when working the colon you may feel a bit bubbly in the stomach area, this is a good sign that the fluids in your body are flowing and reacting to the pressure points being stimulated.
IMPROVED OR INCREASED URINATION/BOWEL MOVEMENTS
Your muscles in your urinary tract tend to relax in most cases, which can cause more frequent urination temporarily. By applying pressure to the area of the liver, gallbladder, stomach or digestive tract this can normalize or speed up bowel movements (diarrhea).
OVERALL COLD FEELING DURING SESSION
During reflexology, you will be totally relaxed and your body will be put into a para-sympathetic mode, (this simply means you are in a healing state and this is when the body starts to repair itself naturally). You will become totally relaxed which makes the blood flow to the center of the body and away from its limbs, which will make you feel slightly cold.
EMOTIONALLY DRAINED
This reaction surprises most clients but there is no need to be concerned. When working on your feet, pressure is applied to all your glands, organs and body parts. Your emotional reactions come from the Endocrine System where most of your hormonal based glands are located. The feelings will not last long and should be viewed as it is time for your body to rest and repair itself and do its job by eliminating toxins, getting your lymph fluid to flow freely and increase cardio-vascular blood flow.
NAUSEA/HEADACHE/FLU-LIKE SYMPTOMS
The body is trying to cleanse itself as naturally as possible and sometimes when the liver and the bowels are worked on the reaction may be as stated above. This will not last long but is important to rest if this occurs. Be aware of these symptoms and take it easy and drink lots of water to allow the toxins eliminate as quickly as possible.
OTHER POSSIBLE RESPONSES
Improved digestion, energized, watery eyes, itchy all over body, increased mucus, very sensitive to touch, ease of pain in certain conditions or increased fertility.
Reflexology Treatment for Diabetics
Sep 21, 2008 Diabetes, Reflexology, Reflexology Treatments
Reflexology is known to be of special use to those suffering specialized health conditions, but a diabetic’s major concern can sometimes start and end at the feet. Symptoms of diabetes can be poor circulation and numbness in the feet with more serious conditions that may develop over time.
These symptoms are where a reflexologist can provide relief in some cases. Because the treatment focuses so heavily on circulation patients can see changes to their feet in a very short time. Reflexologists who have clients with diabetes need to understand the disease and how it affects certain regions of the body. Because diabetes is a condition of the pancreas not producing proper levels of insulin (or using it correctly), the reflexology therapist should pay closer attention to the reflexes of the pancreas, liver and adrenal glands. Increasing the flow of blood to these areas can help the body’s circulation and oxygen levels to the organs that relate to the disease directly.
A recent patient of mine who suffers from diabetes began to feel a long gone sensation in her toes after a few sessions and has become a regular who looks forward to the treatment and results each and every time. Each patient is different and special attention is required for each with their own unique conditions.
